Frank Pouwer Historische Bouwmaterialen is proudly housed in the old warehouses of the flame-oven brick factory in Doorwerth, which was built in 1928.
From 1850 onwards, more and more brickworks appeared in Gelderland. In the floodplains of the major rivers, river clay is present, the most important raw material for the manufacture of bricks. In addition, the baked bricks used to be transported by ship to the customers. For these reasons, many brickworks can be found along the rivers in Gelderland. The factory has been out of use since 2012, leaving the warehouses empty.
Nowadays one of the largest stocks of used wood can be found in the old shed. Large piles of old oak and pine beams, planks, waddles and floors are piled up there.
